F&D Press Bits

Download THIS: Fast & Dirty press kit! (2.1 MB)

Fast & Dirty has performed all over Toronto and the GTA in places as diverse as Second City (Mainstage, Tim Sims Playhouse and The Old Firehall), the Rivoli, the Oakville Centre for the Arts, the lobby of the Bluma Appel Theatre, the Bloor Cinema, the Poor Alex, the Oasis, The Laugh Resort, Spirits Bar and Grill, the Isabel Bader Theatre, the Limelight Dinner Theatre, and more. Performing live gets our hearts pumping with the runaway momentum of an 18-wheeler after the driver's had too many espressos, and we love it.

We won the Tim Sims Encouragement Fund Award in 1997. In 1998 we performed on CBC-TV's SketchCom, got nominated for a Writing Gemini in 1999 for that (with Skippy's Rangers), and did other TV appearances such as Cream of Comedy (The Comedy Network), The Camilla Scott Show (CTV), Daytime (Rogers), The Erin Davis Show (Rogers) and The Toronto Show (Toronto 1). We've also done radio with CBC's Definitely Not The Opera and more recently Madly Off In All Directions, as well as CIUT's Ch Zero, Howl!, and Cap'n Dave's Comedy Hour. We've even had our material played on Dutch National Radio (Geen Tijd, hosted by Paul Van Gelder).

A few quotes about Fast & Dirty:

"They are both solid performers on stage. Their writing has a certain edge to it. These performers run the crowd through their paces."
-- Shane MacDougall, eye Weekly

"Demented musical sketch duo."
-- Jim Slotek, Toronto Sun

"Though extremely unpredictable,
their act is solid, sophisticated, literate,
racy and impeccably paced. Theirs is not an easy genre in which to excel. But these guys make it look that way. Danger is their middle name, and they're sly. They will go far."
-- Daryl Jung, NOW Magazine

"I spent a lot of the time backstage
hanging out with the Fast and Dirty sketch comedy team of Robert Hawke and Gord Oxley. Those guys were funny. No wonder they've been nominated for a Gemini award with Skippy's Rangers for the CBC show Sketchcom."
-- Joe Warmington, Toronto Sun

"The fine-tuned team of Robert Hawke and Gord Oxley broke out with their deft combination of pernicious physicality, improv action, musical obsession and intellectual frivolity. Upbeat, attractive and clever as hell, their imagination escaped unchecked."
-- Daryl Jung, NOW Magazine

"Fast & Dirty has had a rocky climb towards the top of the comedy heap. Oxley and Hawke get faster and dirtier."
-- Andrew Clark, Toronto Star

"Salacious ditty men."
-- Jim Slotek, Toronto Sun
The fans speak out:

Some reactions to the February 1, 1999 episode of CBC's SketchCom featuring Fast & Dirty with Serious Comedy For Oxymorons (note -- spelling is verbatim)

"Fast & Dirty's Raffi/Cohen Skit - This has got to be THE funniest skit I have ever seen on sketchcom. The lyrics were brilliant! Is there
any way I can get a copy of them?"
-- a viewer posting from SketchCom's website Feb. 01, 1999 - 22:12

"this show sucks - Take this halfhour of garbage off the air. Its not funny. Its pathatic to watch grown people act like fools in front of millions of people. If this is the best the cbc has to offer you might as well shut it down."
-- a different viewer posting from SketchCom's website Feb. 01, 1999 - 22:13
